the socket we are calling a test socket is officially a "TSI" or "timing service instrument" socket, it is where you plug in what the manual identifies as a "special ignition service instrument". I have never seen such a device, I guess it is used in the factory for diagnosing timing issues? Anyway, most DIY'ers have just discovered it is a convenient socket to plug in a switch so you can bump the starter. As to the pin numbers, they may be either on the bottom of the socket, or on the matching plug (which I have never seen). When you look at it in the fuse box, it is pretty obvious that the blank pin 6 is on the left, not on the right (at least in my car, a '87T). On a strange plug, it's always a good idea to use a DVM to verify which pins are which...Search this BB for "TSI socket" to get more history on this.
