They used what I call buttons that index the shims so they can be adjusted with the variety of thicknesses.
You drill into the bucket to make a place for the pin in the button to fit. You have to make sure that it seats all the way on the inside face of the bucket.
An alternate method that I would like to explore with collaboration, as I build 8 valve race engines, is to use the option suggested by Catcams. It's one piece instead of two, but you have to buy a variety of the pieces, there isn't a good way to figure out exactly which ones to get. One has to buy lots of them in variety sizes, then pick from the lot and hope you don't need more of one size than what you just ordered from the Netherlands.........
