Sudden loss of power, smoke from valve cover port and exhaust Posted by inca99 [Email] (#1862) [Profile/Gallery] (more from inca99) on Tue, 17 Nov 2020 10:39:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hoping I don't have catastrophic failure of my 86 900T (100K miles) - any thoughts would be appreciated. After sitting for many months with the P.O., I had it back on the road for several months (running great!) and was heading to my mechanic's to check an atf leak. Halfway there it started sputtering and smoking (blue). Pulled over and found more smoke coming out of the PCV "Y" connector area at the top of the valve cover. Also a lot of oil residue sitting in that area. My mechanic did a compression test and found there was no compression on cyl#1, the other 3 were in the 150 - 175 range. Does this sound like a failed head gasket or a damaged cylinder? What am I looking at, cost ballpark, to replace the head gasket and what else should be done at that time, if that is the issue?
