It would have been awesome to be able to get it on a lift. But one of the short Harbor Fright crowbars was just the right length and angle to get under the U joint and drive it off with a 5 lb hammer. Got away with only one bruise on my left thumb and no cuts. Amazing!
At one point before figuring out that hammering the U joint off the pinion was the way to go, I was seriously thinking that pulling the engine would have made it way easier and that I might have to pull it anyway.
But thankfully, the old rack is out. The car is sitting expectantly on its jack stands, with its front tires crossed, waiting for its new rack to be put in next Saturday morning, once this week's rains have stopped.
I'm outside Atlanta, a relatively short drive from 4 (!) pick n pulls (which get maybe a total of 2 C900s a year these days.)
