What is the best thinking these days for transaxle lube for an automatic?
Bentley says SAE EP 80 or 75 API-GL-4 or API-GL-5. It also indicates 10W-30 as an alternative.
I currently use Valvoline 75W-90 which meets the API spec. I've thought that using a gear oil instead of a motor oil would give better shear protection. (the moment I start talking about shear protection, I am over my skis).
But lately I've been thinking my highest priority should be protecting the pinion bearing. We can probably wear out the pinion bearing well before we have to worry about shear protection.
So my question is what is the best lube if protection the pinion bearing is my highest priority. This is for a daily driver that is driven 365 days a year.
