I'm not routinely consulting the EPC info but I should have done so in this instance.
And to confirm, the swap DID reveal that the 92's coil is bad; the swapped 87 coil produced an instant smooth-driving solution upon a test drive yesterday; no more stuttering or hesitation.
I remember performing a spec-test of the failed coil a couple of weeks ago:
Ignition coil specs:
0.5 - 0.9 ohms between both posts
7200-8200 ohms between center and positive
My results with this bad coil:
0.8 ohms between both posts
7890 ohms between center and positive
So the manual's specs-check apparently isn't necessarily conclusive.
I'm ordering a new coil today.
