I'm researching some confusion regarding front seats in the classic 900 and I've absorbed some information from the archives here.

But I'm wondering if anyone can provide more detail.

Saab used 2 types of front seats for the classic 900 (skipping 1978 and 1979 where the seats seem identical to the design coming out of the 99) and I'll term them as "early" style and "later" style. The early style appeared essentially identical from 1980-1990; this seat style is instantly recognizable by the seat-back fold-down lever mounted in front of the seat-back adjustment knob. Other details involving this seat include the L-bracket mount at the rear of the tracks requiring the seat to be tilted into the bracket holes before lowering the front and bolting into place.

The lever location is the quick and obvious way of identifying this seat type.

Starting officially in 1991, Saab installed the later-style seat which used a seat-back release lever about 1/3 of the way up the seat-back framing. Other details include a telescoping height-adjustment lever for the driver seat and a pretty-plain 4-bolt pattern; no more tilting/angling the seat into any bracketing.

This later-style seat is noted in some places as the Saab-9000 seat-design (production years 1984-1998).

Questions:

1. Did the 9000 seating design remain unchanged during the entire production run? I can understand different patterns in the seat-cover construction but for the the general frame and mounting, did it run unchanged during those 14 years? I have extremely little direct experience with Saab 9000s. Would a 1996 Saab 9000 front seat bolt into a 1992 c900?

2. Saab started introducing the later-style seat in some 900 builds preceding 1991. I've read that one person had the later-style seats in a 1987 vehicle. Does anyone know if 1987 was the first year where this transition started?

3. Did convertibles consistently switch to the later-style seating sooner than 1991?

4. Did power-seating start only with the later-style seating? I can't recall ever seeing a powered early-style seat. And was the power option limited only to convertibles? I cannot recall ever seeing a power seat in a c900 besides convertibles, and only in the last 3 or 4 years of convertible production.

I can't recall ever seeing a later-years convertible with non-electric seating but I wasn't paying close attention to seat design up until now so my reference is a little foggy.

Info please; thanks.
