Sounds like the gasket between the end plate that holds that seal (7516255) and the block possibly let go. Both my 92 and 89 had leaks there that covered the gearbox and bottom half of each car in about 5mm of sludge. I was loosing 1 qt every 100 miles until I parked my 89 to restore it. Good ol' Exxon Valdez spillage like.
Looks like SAAB used to use a fiber gasket and then replaced that with an applied anaerobic gasket in the later years. Just rebuilt the engine for my 900S and used the old fiber gasket type I got from R&D Car Parts to test things out to see how it would hold up. They include it in their B202/212 gasket kit. Newer stuff is Permatex Anaerobic 51813
