Car was running like crap.... hearning knocking and misfiring very badly. I retimed it (poorly, but roughly like 17 degrees? and also noticed my fuel rail was... bent. Some of the injectors were not seated fully. Probably bent it last time i pulled the engine if it got in the way of one of the hoist chains or something.
I did a bit of unwise percussive maintenance (I hammered the shit out of the fuel rail on each end and bent it back down into the correct position), and now my misfire and stumbling is gone, so that is a relief, still hear the rap rap rap noise though when it's cold.
Anyway back to the knocking noise. I think it's still there when cold. Pulling the injector basically would take a lot of the load off the cylinder since nothing would burning, nothing pushing the cylinder.
Weirdest part yet is, now maybe I am truly going insane, I plugged unplugged replugged some injectors and... now i hear a ticking, an injector ticking... wait that's normal right? Yeah... of course, saab injectors always tick, but then why didn't I hear it before? maybe I'm going nuts, but also, maybe my injectors were really not operating right? I had a horrible gas smell in my oil and in the engine bay last week and now i don't.
Going to let it cool back down and sleep on it. fire it up tomorrow and see how it sounds with a fresh ear.
This post reads like an insane man, sorry long day. On the upside I drove over to lowes and picked up my new dishwasher. The employee helping me load it gave me a very dubious look when I told him it was not the white suv but the black sedan (my 9000) we were putting it in. Fit in like a charm.
