Congratulations on getting it done.
Outer CV boots are another messy, greasy job but not too bad (other than needing that big breaker bar, lots and lots of nitrile gloves, and the tricky task of opening the clip that secures the outer joint to the axle shaft.) I've done it a couple of times without completely removing the drive axle from the car.
