I would measure the voltage at the battery terminals while idling. It should be around 14 volts, give or take 1/2 volt, if the alternator is charging. If it's not, the problem could be just the regulator and brush assembly. (That can be replaced without removing the alternator.) Over the years in the 900s I've owned that's been the fault when either the battery isn't being charged or the voltage is too high - having owned 900s since 1985 I have yet to need replacing the entire alternator in one of them.
If the battery is draining while the car is parked that sounds like a parasitic drain in one of the car's circuits. If you search youtube you'll find videos on diagnosing that kind of problem.
