I have run a no cat and no muffler combo and it was very, very loud. I have
then ran a cat and no muffler and it wasnt as loud but in both cases, I didnt gain and hp's to speak of. I finally settled with a total 3" system
without a cat and a 2 chamber flowmaster. I feel the balance between power/response and sound are equal. A turbo loves no backpressure. The engine has enough backpressure from the turbo. The engines backpressure
is to drive the turbo (if you want to look at it that way). The last thing
you want is something not allowing the turbo to do its job and not allowing
the exhaust to leave its turbine. I still feel that if your going to trailer this car to a rally or to a track event then go ahead and put nothing on but 3" pipes to the rear bumper. But, if you are going to drive
this car around on the street and around the neighborhood, you might want to keep the 2 chamber (catless if you can w/emissions regulations) because
it is loud. People will want to know you as the guy with saab sleeper not
as the guy with the saab that looks nice, goes fast but cant afford an
exhaust system. Saab turbos have always had that distinctive tone with a
factory turbo muffler and I still feel that my Saab still has that tone
with the 2 chamber. Good luck with your choices!
