Please pardon this cross-post from the "other models" BB, but I need to try to find an answer to this problem ASAP. Thanks very much in advance folks!
If anyone has ANY insight on this problem, please drop me an email asap as I am trying to soothe a dear friend's fears that her 92 Saab 900 (auto transmission) isn't going to have to got to the junkyard. She's terribly distressed over the fact that, though the key works in the door locks, it will not turn in the ignition switch. There was no apparent gradual decline it before its failure, and I made sure that she checked to see that the gear selector was indeed in park all the way. Of course, two locksmiths couldn't figure it out (no surprise here -- these guys from Freeport, IL work on padlocks and Chevy doorlocks all day), and I'm over four hours drive from her. Surely there must be something simple, perhaps in the parking gear selector position, that should be examined before anyone jumps to hasty, expensive conclusions.
My friend is prone to hysterics over these little things, and I really do worry for her peace of mind at this time. Sounds dramatic, but if you knew her... you get the idea. 8^) The car is at the shop, and they'll be checking it over first thing in the morning. Anything anyone might be able to suggest checking first between now and then would be VERY VERY much appreciated. I have skimmed the archives to no avail, and hope some kind sould may shed some light on the subject.
If at all possible, please cc copies of replies to me at cscmc1@eiu.edu and my friend at Charliesatlas@aol.com We will both be most appreciative.
Thanks, and God Bless;
