You websight is great, actually, but I have been waiting to see the put-back-together stage! I guess I really want to know more about what special tools I need, how you plan on getting the pre-load on the pinion (which you didn't cover on your page) and maybe more pictorials. I notice you had a press, is this necessary? I guess my problem is that I hear people say "always replace the layshaft bearing" or something like that, but since I never took a transmission apart, I don't know what is what. The manual for my old 99 has a blowup, but not the manual for my 900. I need more of a big blow-up schematic and step by step guide. Does anyone publish such a thing? Saab must use some kind of printed material to train its technicians.
Also, I know on rear wheel drive axles it is really important to match the pinion gear with the ring gear. They actually paint the ring gear and spin it, making sure the matting surfaces are just right. How do you do this on a Saab tranny?
Also, since the transmission is all nuts and bolts, it seems that torque specs would be pretty important - where can I find this information? These are the kinds of questions I have running through my head.
Thanks,
Greg
