Glad to know someone profited from my experience and recognized the popping hose syndrome!
I don't know why you are reluctant to get generic hose clamps from Autozone or Pep Boys. Really, they work just fine.
Here are a few suggestions -- and I no longer have any hose-popping problems with the Beastie, even with occasional excursions to the top of the red zone. First, remove the problem hose and clean the hose nipple with a clean, dry rag to take off any oil or greasy dirt. Make sure the end of the hose or tubing isn't hard and brittle -- if it is, you need to replace it with a new one. Push it back on and tighten down the clamps and you should be good to go.
Per someone else's advice on here, I have also installed some plastic wire-wrap tie-downs in strategic locations to keep the large rubber plug-type hose connections from popping out. My main problem was the line going to the brake booster; the rubber mount popped out of the engine. It was oily, so I cleaned it well, put it back in, and secured it with the wire wrap. Problem solved.
Some people suggest using RTV silicone sealer on these things. That may help prevent things from popping off under high boost, but remember, most of the time there is VACUUM on these lines. You wouldn't want a dried piece of RTV crust to get sucked into your engine, would you? For that reason, I think it's better to keep the openings clean and not treat them with anything that could detach and get sucked in.
You didn't say where the boost gauge was when the hose popped. :D Were you up in the red? And how did the thrust feel? I'm still anxious to hear the results of your testing at different timing settings.
