seems like i haven't heard much about actual vacuum leak solutions in a while, but after being away from the BB this weekend there are a lot of postings on the subject. its funny that i spent yesterday replacing all the belts, oil fuel filter etc. and ended accidentally finding and fixing my vac. leak. the little hose from the side of the intake manifold to the pass. side wheel well reservoir had been taped at the fitting between the braided cloth portion and the longer, rubber segment. i knocked it off when doing the belts, reattached poorly and my idle was really lopy. i looked over the engine and heard a hiss coming from the taped fitting. i cut it back and properly attached and hey, idle is great and i no longer have a flat/power loss on high rpms! what a nice way to find a vac leak. BTW, belt change (w/ matching alt belts) and adjustment of idler pulley alignment got rid of every chirp, squeak and squish from my pulleys! its so quiet that now i can better hear the valves tap and timing chain rattle. the belts were only a year old but were crappy auto parts store ones - the Gates are very smooth. i put the old ones on at night (when one breaks it knocks all the rest off too) on the side of the highway last summer - obviously did a shitty job and could never bring my self to re-live the task until this weekend.
