I had to wait on my SPG9 wastegate for awhile, too. They MAKE them from old ones, opening up the "can" and replacing the guts with their own SPG9 magical bits. I just sent them back my old stock unit, so they'll be modifying it when they get it, I'm sure. They had a shortage of "donor" units for awhile. Also, there are a couple types of actuators. The first one I got from them wasn't mounted to the type of flange that fit on my turbo -- I think it was a later one made to go on a water-cooled turbo. They sent me the right one a week or so ago.

Anyway, I'm very happy with it. I've adjusted it (took two tries) so that WOT gives me a steady 2/3 redzone boost. That's plenty. I had to lengthen the rod about 2 full turns from where I had it before. (Remember, shorter means higher boost.)

I did some more tuning today. I wanted to test the effects of adjusting the timing again, because I've fixed a few things (most notably some small vacuum and pressure leaks) since I did the AID tuning. I tried the car this afternoon at 22 degrees BTDC. Wow! It worked exceptionally well! Very smooth, no knock or boost twitch, and the onset of boost was rapid -- moreso than I'd seen previously at 20 degrees. From a 60mph 5th gear cruising start, application of full throttle resulted in full yellow in under a second and solid 2/3 red in another half second. I went from 65 to 105mph in a very short time... maybe only 3 seconds of full boost thrust on level pavement. Wooo! Big grin from me. Driving around town the car accelerates nicely at my standard top-of-the-white pace. I'm done tweaking for awhile now!

To answer your other question, I've got nylon zip ties around the three big hoses coming off the intake manifold. One goes to the brake booster, one to the charcoal canister (and other places) and the third (the one that popped Sunday) goes to the AIC. Be careful that you don't pinch anything underneath the manifold, like electrical wires or other vacuum hoses, when you're threading your tie-wraps around. Also, make sure all your other clamps and hoses are secure, and that the smaller vacuum lines are gripping nicely, not hardened so they can easily be pulled away.

Anxious to hear how you do. Good luck!
