Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Saab made a 6 cylendar 900 S in the 80's, just the 2.0L 4 cyl.
How many miles does it have? Is the seller the first owner? Do they have any maintenance records? If you do go to look at it, be ready to turn away w/o buying it if your gut tells you to.
Check the various fluids, note how dirty the engine oil is. Check the tranny fluid for burnt odor and/or sparkly metal flakes. Look for water stains inside to indicate leaks. Make sure everything works (that you care about) seat heaters, cruise, a/c, sunroof, if it has any of those things. Check for rust underneath if you live in a rust-prone environment. Check the general condition of things under the hood - vaccuum lines, etc.
Oh, and of course, take it for a nice long test drive. Long enough for everything to get warmed up. Drive it fast, slow, in reverse, through sharp turns, etc. Ask for explanations of any problems you detect - noises, etc. If there are small probems that you are sure you can fix or get fixed, be sure to mention them all when you are haggling over the price.
Good luck, and welcome to the wonderful world of Saabs if you decide to buy!
