Brain dead? Warm start problem... Posted by Rob [Email] (#1828) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rob) on Sun, 12 Nov 2000 15:55:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
'89 SPG: I'm stumped on this one...
Warm start problem. If the car is cold, it starts and runs 'ok' but when I shut off car for more than a few minutes, it runs like *crap* for a few. For the previous 6 months, the car started to smell of sulfer on boost and gas milage and performance was suffering. Check engine light eventually came on after a warm start one night last month and continues after all the tests performed and parts replaced below.
Codes are 'rich' the majority of the time with a few o2 readings from time to time. I've replaced the fuel filter, o2 sensor, removed the cat, it's fine and a good time driving around w/o the cat for a couple of days... all I could handle of the noise.
AMM & AIC tested ok, resistance is fine on the injectors and I removed the electric connectors one at a time from each injector while the car idled... all had the same rpm drop while performing this test. Thoroughly cleaned the grounds on the chassis and positive connections on the wheel housing. Fuel pressure is w/in spec and holds it's pressure for several hours after shutoff. Replaced all vaccuum lines that were bad or looked that way. No air leaks of any kind.
After replacing the o2 sensor, the car started fine and ran *SOOOO* smooth for up to a half hour. Then after shut off, it starts but still cuts out and runs erratically for a few minutes until it clears up and so the warm start problem continues.
Could the reason it ran so good for a while be because the ECU didn't have any juice while I had the battery out of the car replacing the o2 sensor? I always clear the fault code memory after reading the codes.
Only thing I havn't checked is the knock sensor, the ECU and the timing which should be self adjusting. The boost never gets more than 3/4 in the yellow...
Anyone care to take a bite of this problemo?
