I do not agree with turboman here. The 89> EZK on the NA engines has all ignition timing set and controlled by the by the EZK unit. It gets its signals off the lower pulley on the engine and has an ignition map based on engine speed and modified by knock (I think). I aligned my notch with the joint between the valve cover and the head. The best way is to align by eye when the crank is set at TDC that the rotor is pointing to the correct plug wire. (the notch should be near the joint). Look up on the Townsend site the EZK pages. I think they will be of help in diagnosing the problem. You may have a dead amplifier or no signal from the knock sensor.
