I have to actually turn the wipers off BEFORE I turn the key in order to get the wipers to stay down. I don't think anything is wrong, its just the way the wiring is done. Power to the motor is cut off with the ignition. My steering column switch is going out too, but its not dead yet. I recently replaced the turnsignal/low,high beam/cruise switch after someone else tried to drive my car and almost ripped it off the column because they couldn't figure out how it worked... It was easy to replace, so I imagine the wiper switch will be even easier... my $.02 worth...
