I spent all weekend on this, mainly because I did not have the proper tools. You need a set of metric closed-end wrenches with the closed end at an angle to the handle of about 30 degrees. You can get them at Sears. If you don't want to buy the full set you need the 12mm and 17mm. You also need a SMALL 6mm allen wrench - not the usual big size that normally comes in the complete set, but the smaller one that Sears sells as a pair with a big one. The smaller one is the only one I could get to fit.
The trick is to loosen (but not attempt to remove) the 17mm long bolt that holds the alternator to the bracket. Then remove the 12mm bolt holding the alternator and a/c brackets to the engine. Then remove the 6mm allen bolt that holds the alternator bracket to the engine on the back (radiator) side. The alternator can then be rotated toward the back of the engine and the 17mm bolt withdrawn (just barely).
As RS says, the townsend site describes this procedure quite well - it just doesn't tell you what tools you need.
Good luck.
Don't forget to replace everything in the exact reverse order or you will have to do it all over again.
