91 and 92 Turbos are basically the same with the major difference being the TCS. both have the 2.3L engine with 200 hp/244 ft lb (221 ft lb with auto) 92's have smaller wheel arches and in-dash cd player as standard.
both have the same weak points:
heater core
DI
timing/balance shaft chains (after ~100K)
SRS
motor mounts
i bought a super clean 92 9000T 5 spg with 121K for $4900 in Nov of 00
and i've done the following in my year or so of ownership:
new rear calipers
clutch
exhaust
heater core
timing chain
water pump
...and yes, the dreaded TCS (new throttle body and check valve).
the heater core, timing chain and water pump were done preventively as i had access to a independent garage (Planet Saab- best in SF) and they let me work on my car there. but i had to pay through the teeth for the TCS repair ($1000+) as i was traveling in LA.
if a 91 and 92 are in mechanically equivalent shape, i'd go with a 91 (especially if it's Talladega Red) but with the mileage difference you mention, it's a toss up...
