Naive question about the way to handle auto tran ... Posted by Serge [Email] (#1363) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Serge) on Tue, 2 Apr 2002 04:24:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I own a '92 9k, Cde, auto, 2.3 liter injection. About 100.000 kms on the counter. Perfectly well maintained.
No problem at all ( cross my fingers ). When I drive on highway, I can see the iddle of the motor temp going at about 8 or 9 o'clock on the
graduation. When I am in the city ( most of the time, in fact ), the iddle goes and stays at about 10 o'clock.
My question : I have noticed that when I am stopped in the traffic jam or at a long timed red light and then I am going
on neutral on my auto tran, the motor seems to stay cooler. The question now : by going very often from Drive to Neutral ( and N to D ) in a gentle way, does it not affect the tran ( or the motor ) in a certain way : longetivity, etc...
I am doing right by acting that way, or do I have to stay on Drive once for all, even on the red lights ...
I am sorry to ask a question that may look stupid for a lot of you, guys. But here in Europe, we are more used to drive
manual trans .... and that's my first shot with an auto tran ..... and honestly, I have asked that one around me and have received several answers totally confusing : yes, no , perhaps, yes but .... no but .... etc... etc...
So, as I respect a lot this forum and trust certainly guys like Quasi, I have a try. Thanks a lot for your advices.
