I did the exact same thing with our 87 9000T a year ago. I broke the flaps removing the box and had to go to the junkyard to get another box. The trick is to put the flap control lever all the way rearward so the flaps aren't sticking out as much. It moves around on you so you have to keep an eye on it during the install. I just did the same job on our (new) '92 9000T last week and it was easy in comparison. The 2.3L electric throttle body doesn't get in the way and I knew what I was doing this time around. I actually broke the a/c lines and removed the a/c evaporator in the '87! This time I spent $150 to have the A/C recharged and the darn blower fan went bad the next day. There was no way I was going to remove the a/c in the '92. I was pretty darn proud of myself to fix it within a couple of hours this time around. I did break the plastic tabs at the bottom. That was fixed by jambing a thick piece of rubber between the blower and the firewall. IT works great.
