As the clutch ages the effort required to operate it can increase. When I replaced the clutch in my '95 I was shocked at how light and easy the new one was to operate.
Maybe the '02 Aeros have a problem with a bad component in the linkage or something isn't tightened properly.
But, I have to admit that after having manual shift cars for the past 30 years, the prospect of having an impressive auto shift is appealing given how horrible traffic has become.
