Yah, forget the gentle on step two. Unless your mast is snapped off the little clip at the base that retains the mast will not come out gently. Give it a good tug. Someone had a good FAQ on this at one point. Check Quasi's site. I've had good luck just using some dry lube or some of my bike chain lube works well too. Just coat the shaft and run it up and down a few times.
