If you hit this over boost/feul cut-off swicth you'll know it. The same happened to me when first pushing my boost up there. The VDO gauge was reading about 15-16 psi, but I hadn't hit it yet and was expecting it. Sure enough though as I adjusted my base boost up to about spec levels (was at like 3.5 psi) I now was reading about 17 psi on the gauge and I tripped the switch and the engine went from fuul boost to no boost or had seemed like the engine just shut down, all in like 1 second. The over boost switch is located under the steering colom some where on these 88' models. vanilla in color with a few vac lines and an electrical connector leading into it. There's a center adjustment screw with some type of RED color tamper-dot coatig on it. Just turn that screw one full turn clockwise and then it'l be good to go. I've hit just about 22 psi and stil haven't tripped it again, not sure if I ever will either but when I do at least I then know what psi it's set at. A picture ot this device is shown at the site below near the bottom of page.
