I'll go out on a limb here and say that you'll probably be fine with a 205/55-16 tire, and there are a LOT of options in that size as it's quite popular these days. My experience with the older 9000s is that the speedos are rarely accurate, and usually err on the side of too fast rather than too slow. In the past I've always "upsized" tires and ended up with a readout closer to reality. On my current 9000 (an '88 9kt) I went with 215/50-16s and the result in a speedo that's nearly spot-on - I measured with a GPS. That's a great tire size for older 9000s in terms of performance and is extremely close to the original size). The downside is that there are few choices. Fortunately, most of those options are really good tires.
Regardless, moving to a 205/55-16 will net you a +3.4% error, which amounts to a measly 2mph at an indicated 60mph and 3mph at 80mph. That's hardly worth worrying about, IMHO. In my mind, the extra fuel economy (fewer revs per turn of the wheel) makes it worthwhile. (Of course, someone will probably jump in and explain that the better highway mileage will be offset by poorer mileage in stop-and-go traffic....) At any rate, with this size tire rubbing should not be a problem except in extreme circumstances - full suspension compression while turning or hitting a big bump while carrying a big load. Not something I'd be concerned about.
