Stereo Wiring Question

I am installing a new Alpine cd/receiver unit in my 87 9000T, that was purchased from Crutchfield. The wiring harness from Crutchfield came with the ground wire set up to be connected to a ground point on the chassis. The Saab harness connector has the ground wire as part of the connector My question is should I hook the ground wire through the Saab connector or ground it to the chassis. The Tech guy at Crutchfield said to hook it up directly to the chassis for a better ground. I would perfer to connect it through the Saab wiring connector, so that if I need to remove the unit , I can just unplug it. Will this way work as well? Thanks
