Four 9000s and like 12 900s later...
1. I'd say yes. In general, 9000s have less problems. However, 900s are generally cheaper to repair. I think the net cost of owning them is the same, it's just a matter of what repairs and when. :)
2. Depends on what you're doing. In general I find 900s ever so slightly easier to work on, but it's close. I do believe that, all said and done, there are more truly ugly jobs on a 9000 than a 900 - things like blower motors, heater cores, turbo replacement, clutches.
3. Be sure the top is maintained and the ABS system is maintained. 1990 was in general a very good year. I've own a 900T and an SPG and they were the best 900s I've owned.
