I too am having trouble getting the tranny off the engine in my 86 9000T. I'm replacing the transmission as third gear synchro is gone. I don't mean to hijack this post, but since we both have the same problem to some extent, hopefully Sjer won't mind? (thanks Sjer!)

At any rate, everything is disconnected, electrical, speedo, hydraulic line, and all bolts are removed that hold the tranny to the engine. The only thing that seems to be keeping it from pulling away from the engine is the connection to the mid-shaft (the shaft that goes from the transmission to the passenger side tripod joint).

I was told that all I needed to do was to pull or pry on it a little and it would pop loose, however no amount of prying or pulling is helping. The shaft has *started* to pull out about 1/2" or so on the outboard end (ie. passenger side) of the mid-shaft, but other than that I can't seem to make any more progress whatsoever -- it comes up solid after that 1/2" progress. It's really beginning to frustrate me, and I've used a pry bar, man-handling, and nothing makes it budge.

Does anyone have any advice? Can I physically remove that mid-shaft or release it from the other side? Is there something I am missing? I don't have a service manual and am doing this based on a .PDF article about changing the clutch that another list member posted awhile back. It just says to remove the rubber boot, but I don't see any rubber boot except for a small boot on the inboard side of the shaft and since I'm trying to pull the shaft OUT of the transmission, I don't see that the boot is in the way at all. I did remove the lockdown on the boot so that it is free to come away from the transmission however.

Help would be greatly appreciated, and hopefully we can answer the orginal poster's question at the same time. Thanks everyone!
