Hello again,
Thanks for the reminder - not something one has to think
about very often - and I am certain I will forget again !
I liken our exchange to the old thing about those claims
that commercial airline flights are MUCH safer than just
taking a ride in the family car....
Even assuming that everyone could be driving a nice, safe
Swedish car - accidents are not that prevalent and/or
constant, and there is always the chance that one may
simply walk away, or simply be dead.
By comparison:
A commercial airliner falls out of the sky, and there is
virtually NO chance for survival - none, period.
Survivors from other than runway crashes are very rare.
Most of what is recovered is just small, bloody gobbets.
I have no desire to enter an airport, let alone ride a
pipe, 1000's of feet up, at 100's of MPH.
BUT - I will drive my car anytime, without a second
thought.
My point:
Anything is possible.
BUT -
I do not care what the statistics say, I would much
rather die in my own car, than closed into a missile
with perhaps a few hundred stangers, blasted and
burned horribly !
And - the situation you outline is rather unlikely -
but I will say that if your high side made it to almost
500 an nothing blew up in your face, you have
essentially proved my point for me - these systems are
usually way above spec.
Too much energy is spent nowadays making people 'safe';
As a grown adult, I would prefer to make my own
decisions, and then to live with the consegences...
OK, I said too much already.
Best Wishes,
mark
