The part that changed is where the head and timing cover come together. On the 94- motors, because of space constraints on the NG 900, the whole motor had to be 'shortened'. Since the B234 first came out, the timing chain had gotten closer and closer to the #1 cylinder. In the 94- motors it's as close as they could get. The timing cover on the 94- motors is slimmed, and thus the head had to be changed.
I was going to direct you to a pic on the web, but it's not replying, so I'll try to describe it.
On the B202-B234 93 head, there are two bolts for the timing cover that come up into the bottom of the head. If you can picture the bolts not moving, the head casting is changed to end closer to the timing chain, and the bolts now thread *down* into the timing cover. You could use the later head, but you'll have to make a small plate to cover the resulting hole from the mismatched parts.

The 2.3 head casting and the C900 B212 head casting are the same. The inlet ports and exhaust ports are larger than they are on the B202 head. But to take full advantage, you need the corresponding manifolds...
