Later 9000s have a filter in the PS Fluid reservoir. If yours is one of those, the fluid tends to stay pretty clean. You might just change the filter, then the reservoir contents every oil change (or every day until clean, as Dick suggests below).
You can tell the filter reservoirs ... the cap has like a rubber skirt seal attached, is spring loaded, and when you open the cap and look down, you see a metal disk - that's the top of the filter. It's a little cartridge filter, like the new 9-3 SS oil filter is, except the metal tube is on the outside (the fluid flows from the inside outwards...)
***IF*** you don't have the filter you might want to consider adding one. I did on my '91 9K. I used a "remote oil filter thing" like they sell from Summit Racing and connected it in the return line. I build a bracket out of old license plate to hold the remote filter thing up at the "dogbone" coupling.
When I did that, I flushed the system using "GM Approved" el-cheap-stuff and then did a drain-and fill with synthetic. I sucked out the reservoir, disconnected the inlet hose, and shoved it down (with my thumb over the hose) so it would drain into a pan just under the car. I might have removed the inner fender liner first, so I would have a chance of getting morer fluid in the pan than everywhere else. Then (here's the two person part) I just had the car started and the wheel turned full left and full right, and back again, while I poured into the reservoir. I probably had a short hose from the hole where the inlet hose came it pointing skyward, or covered the opeing with my thumb. There was very little drama. It doesn't pump all that fast...
