I've done lots of these, and most of the time I never have any problems. A bit of petroleum jelly and everything works great.
On occasion, though, I have a run where I tear the o-rings on either side of the adapter. I never have been able to figure out why.
Kinda like motorcycle tubes. I can go years without pinching one, and then pinch 3 in a row on a single rim.
Anyway, when things go well it's under an hour, working from the top.
