It might hurt your car if something happens to the A/C system.
If the Freon would leak out, it's no A/C comp safety cut off now in that configuration and the compressor will most likely seize for lack of lubrication.
You might also run into engine overheating if the electrical system is not working properly allowing the extra fan to come on.
The A/C system might also freeze up with ice starving the A/C compressor of oil and sezing it.
What was the main reason why the A/C comp didn't kick in, that you felt was too expensive to fix?
