a/c repair update>cleaning drain

I was right that water that had collected but did not drain caused the failure of my a/c. My independant cleared the drain from the top of the engine. After removing the panel to access the resistor that had blown he took off the panel at the back of the engine between the a/c parts and the engine. Took a couple of minutes. He then took a long pair of pliers (about a foot long) and reached in and pulled out the "nipple" and cleaned it and flushed the area with a hose and put the nipple back. The entire operation took 10 to fifteen minutes and he charged me $20 for labor. This procedure was fast, safe and easy and doesn't involve putting the car on a jack. Much easier and cleaner than the method described in quassi motors.
The resistor apparently has a feature that conrols the a/c itself and not just the fan. As soon as the resistor failed we lost the a/c. With the new resistor ($96) we got the a/c back.
I am a little mad that the dealer didn't look immediately below the expansion valve that they replaced and notice the compost heap that was near the drain. Of course I don't know for sure that all that water caused the resistor to blow or the fan to overheat. All I know is I now have my a/c back ice cold.
Thought paople would want to know an easier way to clean the drain without going under the car.
