The factory procedure, and one described by NINES writer Jack Ashcraft in his publication "The Saab Journal" does not involve "dropping" the tranny to the ground. A "bridge" is used to suspend the tranny and allows it to be pushed aside enough to do the job. Naturally there is an expensive Saab tool for the job, and Jack gave instructions for replicating the bridge tool. I have always been of the opinion that the tool could be made using some 2X4 stock and a set of metal "sawhorse" fixtures, the ones that hold 2X4s into sawhorse mode.
The procedure is to support the motor from below and then remove the swinging half of the engine cradle. There's removing the drive shaft, then suppporting the tranny by the bridge while you remove it. The top couple of bolts are replaced with alignment dowls (headless bolts ... you can make these yourself using longer bolts). slide back the tranny and push it aside. I don't recall if the differential comes out with clutch housing ... probably...
