Quick check. Remove the small wire from the Alt. Turn key to on. If the light is on you have a wireing short. If the light is only on when hooked to the alternator, the problem is in the alternator. You wouldn't be the first person to get a defective new part. Or there could be a bigger problem inside the alternator "eating" regulators. Do you have aan old fasioned 12 volt test light? You can hook it up from the post where the little wire goes (in place of the dash light) to the big wire from the battery. Start the car, the test light will substitute for the dash light.
