Yes, the CMP sensor is lodged within the ignition cassette, and the chap with whom I dealt at the front counter of the service facility gave me (a printed entry from his PC, as part of the invoice) this info: "CEL Light on - read code P0340: Camshaft Position Sensor Malfunction" After replacing the cassette, the CEL was extinguished, but only temporarily (less than two miles of driving), and similarly with the second replacement they tried (fortunately the latter was at no cost.) I had been told, at some point in the distant past, that this particular engine design (its the turbocharged 2.3 liter four, in a 1997 Saab 9000CSE, with roughly 90,000 miles) was allergic to platinum plugs (Bosch platinums had been installed, replacing the earlier NGKs), and I am glad to read that this could indeed be the residual cause of the CEL mystery. I don't, however, understand the specific physics of how a charge/spark generated from a platinum surface affects whatever sensor induces the CEL to operate - can anyone explain this to me?
