As hmr implies, it could be lack of brake boost. Lack of brake boost could come from a variety of sources.
Brake boost is powered by the ABS pressure, which comes from the ABs pump. That's probably the fuse hmr had blow. However, if you have no ABS pressure, you should have the ABS and Brake Fluid lights on. If you don't, then either your pressure is fine, or the ABS and Brake Fluid lights are burned out. Both lights should come on for a few seconds when you first start a car that has been sitting overnight. If not, just turn the key to ON, but don't start the car - you should see Brake Fluid and ABS lights.
Assuming you've got ABS pressure (lights work, and go off after a few seconds), then your Brake Booster is probably shot.
Of course, inspect your brake pads. If your brake pads are worn down to the metal, or the pads are badly glazed, your stopping efficiency will suck.
