Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I was rear ended a couple years ago in '92 CD turbo. The car still sitting in my yard. The guy that rear ended me had no insurance, I did not have full coverage and there you go...
I would definitely get the money for it, and not try to fix it, but keep it for $100 , after a car's been hit, it just won't be the same car, and chances are repairs are going to exceed estimates. Besides it will probably take 3 weeks and then the trouble you will have to go through to get it legal again is quite extensive as you mentioned yourself, just not worth it. For around $4500 one can get a '93-'94 9k no problem,check saabnet classifieds or even ebay, and having the wrecked car for spares would be great. Definitely get the insurance to pay as much as possible, because they would use anything they could, to pay as little as possible. Good luck!
