Squirrel cage access

Earlier discussion got me outside to my daughter's 86 9kt. Had forgotten "false" bulkhead or would have done this in warm weather. Squirrel cage flapping against something with enough resistance that it doesn't even work at low speed. Got as far as bulkhead and wiper system out and blower loose. Can't seem to work rear of housing out from under lip of duct that runs into cabin. Question; can that duct be loosened from inside? That would save having to fool with evaporator assembly. Also, found 3" inspection plug on blower housing. Inside there is a big section of foam on the bottom that I managed to get loose and maneuver up to the inspection hole, where I got a few pieces out. Is the foam supposed to be in there or did it come loose from someplace else? On the one hand it's pretty big, on the other it came loose pretty easily.
I know how some people feel about the '86's, and the car is annoying; sagging headliner, rust, grinding speedo cable--after only 249,000 miles, too! Only keep it because it would be a shame to junk it before it's even broken in:)
