With a good set of basic tools even major jobs are pretty easy. Parts are also very inexpensive bought through our site sponsors.
If ease of maintenance is your primary goal I'd pick a 96,97 or 98. These years are relatively free of any major problems.
They also have OBDC which is the Federally mandated diagnostic system all cars in the US have, starting in '96. Right below the steering wheel is a connector. Inexpensive code readers plug in and help diagnose all manners of different engine, emissions and electrical problems.
My personal system is software and an adapter that I load on a Palm computer, but there are also laptop versions and stand alone systems available for a couple hundred bucks or less.
I usually don't like the Feds mucking around in my cars, but OBDC really is a good thing.
Good Luck
