Mmmm... didja say LSD trip? I believe an Abbott LSD is currently about 720 pounds sterling - about $1,300 at current exchange. I believe you may source one a hundred or two less somewhere, but from what I've been able to figure out, they're all made by Quaiffe.
Now, to the big question, what would I pay extra for a used 9000 with an LS Diff...? Being someone who contemplates, several times a day, tearing down a healthy transmission and paying $1,300 for an LSD, I would say I'd easily pay $700 extra for one. I doubt most people would pay more than a couple of hundred more... My thought would be this would only be viable if you were planning on keeping the car a loooong time, which, since you're exploring the thoughts you're exploring, I suspect you may not be. You could always do the LSDiff, and then sell me the car in a few months, and I'd easily give you $6-700 more than the going rate...
The thing is, of course, a 9000 with 114,000 miles has a lot of life left in it, and even the odd $2,000 repair, is a whole lot less than a new (or nearly new) 9-5 wagon...
My vote, this is worthwhile if you are keeping the car 3 years more... I wouldn't count on getting much back on selling the car...
