ari, last week i told you about a valve (intake) that my indie though was stretched...see images. i trust him, but his prices are high. i found this problem from a continued rough idle and a compression test showed #1 about 40lbs low...
95CSE 110k
anyways, the valve is in my possession and we put it in another head to show it sat very deep in the valve seat(?). he claims that it was elongated (he and another associate (machine shop) seem to think the heat treating process was not correct on this valve and it stretched over time!??!) he claims he's really never seen this before. since it was long it never gave a good seal. compression and leak down tests confirmed the head needed cracked open to investigate.
you can see the edges curled up some on the valve, what causes this?
he said the inside was clean, with good valve seal and compression and felt the used valve he installed will go along time with the rest of the head. told me this was a fluke and not common.
we have a good relationship and he talks straight to me, but this seemed really weird. he claims he has his own tool to determine proper clearences on valves...
anyways: 10hrs ($75) for tests, diagnosis, removal/install and pulling the cams off to test everything else. $11 used valve and $60 gasket kit...and i thought i just had a bad DI!
