Transmission acting weird when car get hot

Hello all, I have researched this site for infomation relatted to a strange transmission problem I'm having. I'm the original owner of a 93 9K CS with 188K miles with original transmission. Transmission is fine when temp gauge is at 9 O'clock or lower. When gauge creeps up to 10 - 10:30 range, I feel a slippage in transmission when accelearting from a standstill, almost as if gear is not engaging. When this happens I press the gas lightly and let the engine rev a little and allow the transmission to engage in gear. This takes a about 2 - 3 seconds. Once in gear, all is fine at all speeds. How is transmission affected by the car's temparature. My 9K temp has always crept towards red zone in summers without overheating and affect on other car functions.
Regards
