While I don't know if those stock head units have pre-amp outputs or not (I doubt it). There is another way, although not as clean of a sound. You could do one of the following. first, does your amp have 'line level inputs'? Which means the amps input signal can be speaker wires(from the stock head unit)instead of RCA jacks. This isn't a bad way to go but the problem is that you'd give up at least a set (4 lines) to just being the inputs for this amp instead of using them to drive the factory speaker so 2 ea positive and 2 ea negative(or the wires used to drive the rear speakers). However if your amp can drive multiple channels (4 channels) then you could use 2 of those 4 channels to turn around and drive the rear speakers for example and then use the other 2 channels for the sub. The other option is very similar in it's outcome only the input to the AMP is slightly different. See you could use 'line level converters'. Here we're talking about those same 4 speaker wires, only they go into a small(pack of cigarette's sized)junction box first, and this box converts them to RCA jacks for output ($20), that then is feed into the amp. What's slightly better here though is that these small units often include adjustment screws so you can adjust how strong the signal is that's convertered and input to the amp. These will be your cheapest options because it'll allow you to spend little or no cash. The alternative as you stated is replacing the head unint but then you're talking $250 minimum for a decent one.
See Ya,
Phil
