That's not entirely accurate. A Trionic-equipped 9000 (93+) can use an atmospheric blow-off valve without any trouble. The stalling/stumbling problem only shows up because the earlier vehicles use a MAF (or is it AMM? I don't remember exactly...) that meters the air coming in, and when that air is dumped to the atmosphere, it screws thing up.
How do I know? I ran an atmospheric BOV on my '93 CS for a good 6 months (and I'll be putting one on my new Aero) with no ill effect.
